The first reason that they are getting smarter is they are staying true to their promise to show results. As a matter of fact I believe that this has been the theme for the last few years.
You see many websites and other online businesses get on the search engines and then forget about them. They start doing other things. Well if you’re on the first page of a search then you have traffic, and if you have more traffic you have more chances to sell. And with every sale, you make from that traffic you get paid a percentage.
So what do they need to stay on top of the competition?
Well, they need to be better at developing good websites with good content. This is where many businesses go wrong. They start creating websites with lots of fancy graphics, they use too many keywords, they try to trick the search engines into thinking they are more relevant than they really are, and so on and so forth.
What they don’t realize is they are just wasting everyone’s time. But with the new Google penalties for poor quality backlinks, you can see how important this factor is.
Now the second part of Google’s plan to stay on top is through the new feature they have introduced called “Google+ Local”. Google is trying to bring together the local business community and internet marketers.

These tools will allow them to further analyze customer behavior, both online and off, and use this information to create better-targeting options.
All of this combined with the recent partnership with Yahoo and Bing to create and maintain their own search engines gives Google the ability to stay on top without having to worry about being left behind by the other guys.
In fact, I believe that Google will be able to successfully dominate all of the major search engines in the years to come and I see Google+ as the beginning of this revolution.
Through the use of its new technologies, Google will be able to gain a foothold on one of the most powerful businesses in the world, and with its new partnerships with Microsoft and Yahoo, they may just be able to create even more Google alternatives.
